Air Fryer Frozen Potato Skins
Make Air Fryer Frozen Potato Skins for your next game day or snack! The air fryer makes them crispy on the outside and tender on the inside in just minutes!
Potato skins are a classic appetizer at restaurants like TGI Fridays, Applebees, and Chili’s. A potato skin appetizer is a potato with the flesh scooped out, leaving the thin skin.
They are then fried or baked and served with toppings like cheese, bacon, sour cream, or chives, much like a smaller version of a baked potato.
Instead of making homemade potato skins from scratch, you can now buy them in the frozen section of your grocery store! The air fryer is the best way to make potato skins because it uses dry circulating heat to cook the food. This makes the texture of air fryer potato skins crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
It also takes much less cooking time when using your air fryer and you don’t have to heat up the house with your oven! Making frozen potato skins in the air fryer is a great way to enjoy a quick snack or to make as a Super Bowl or game day appetizer!
🥔What You’ll Need
- Frozen Potato Skins – You can find frozen potato skins in the frozen potato aisle of the grocery store near the appetizers or near the french fries. Popular brands of frozen potato skins include Fridays, TGI, Alexia, and Ore-Ida.
- Air Fryer – We tested this recipe in both a small air fryer like the Dash Deluxe Air Fryer as well as a larger one like the Ninja Foodi. Both worked great!
- Toppings of Choice – Cheese, bacon bits, sour cream, chives, or any other toppings you like on your potato skins!
🔥How To Air Fry Frozen Potato Skins
1️⃣Preheat the air fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375 degrees F. This step is important because it helps the potato skins cook evenly throughout.
2️⃣Place the frozen potato skins in the air fryer: Place them in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not touching each other. You may need to cook them in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
3️⃣Cook for 10-12 minutes: Cook the potato skins for 10-12 minutes or more, depending on their size. The potato skins should be crispy on the outside and warmed through on the inside.
4️⃣Add toppings and serve: Once they are done cooking, add your favorite toppings and serve immediately! We like to top ours with shredded cheese, bacon bits, sour cream, and chives. Enjoy!
👩🏻🍳Cooking Tips
- Preheating is important when cooking frozen foods as it helps them cook evenly throughout while defrosting.
- The best time and temperature for making frozen potato skins in the air fryer depends on the brand and size. You may need to add or subtract a few minutes of cooking time.
- If your potato skins are not as crispy as you like, cook them for a few minutes longer.
- Be careful when removing the cooked potato skins from the air fryer basket. They will be hot! Use tongs or a fork to remove them from the basket and place them on a serving plate.
- Serve the potato skins immediately with your favorite toppings. The longer they sit, the soggier they will become.
- Ensure the potato skins are in a single layer as the air needs to circulate around them to cook evenly. If they touch each other, they will not get as crispy.
