How do you know if asparagus has gone bad? Asparagus will let you know if it's gone bad by having a rotten odor. It will also begin to become slimy and mushy especially at the tips.
What's the best way to trim asparagus ends? One tip we learned in culinary school is to grab an asparagus spear at the bottom and see where it snaps off on its own. This is usually about 1-2 inches from the bottom. That is how much of each stem you want to cut off. The stems are often tough and fibrous which are not fun to eat!
Bacon Wrapped Air Fryer Asparagus
The best way to wrap asparagus in bacon for the air fryer is to make an asparagus bundle.
- Take 3-4 asparagus spears and wrap them in 1 piece of bacon.
- Place bacon wrapped asparagus bundles in your air fryer basket and cook for 10-12 minutes at 400 degrees.
- For extra crispy bacon, pre cook your bacon in the air fryer half way then wrap around asparagus.
Asparagus Fries Recipe
You can make breaded asparagus fries in your air fryer with these recipe instructions:
- After coating your washed and trimmed with avocado oil, salt, pepper and garlic powder, coat with breadcrumbs. You’ll need about ⅔ cup.
- Place breaded asparagus spears in your air fryer basket in an even single layer with a ½ inch of room between each spear. Overcrowding the basket will result in asparagus that is mushy and not crispy, so it may need to be cooked in batches.
- Cook at 400 for 8-10 minutes or until breading becomes brown and crispy. Serve immediately with dipping sauce like this homemade thousand island dressing.
