This homemade electrolyte lemonade contains body quenching sodium, magnesium, potassium and concentrated trace minerals you may be missing out on in your diet!

Homemade Electrolyte Lemonade Recipe Thyme + JOY

The need for homemade electrolyte lemonade stemmed from my love for my twice a week Orange Theory workouts. Those workouts push me more than I ever could and the result is that I am a sweaty salty mess afterward. When I get home, my dog cant stop licking my arms … I am his electrolyte supplement.

The problem is that just drinking straight water after a tough workout or being outside in the summer heat is that it doesn’t actually replace the electrolytes you’ve lost. They are important because they are what carries nerve impulses through the body to signal things to work or move like your heart, muscles and brain. Without them, it is common to feel fatigued and lethargic.

This homemade electrolyte lemonade relies on salt and trace minerals to get a full spectrum of electrolytes. Trace minerals are found in plants and animal products and are needed in minimal amounts in humans. While most of our minerals come from eating plants, it’s safe to say that the nutrients in the soil that are FEEDING the plants have drastically decreased due to over farming and industrial chemicals etc. This is why I use a concentrated trace mineral supplement to make sure I’m getting the correct balance of most things I need to function better.

I honestly drink this all the time now whether I am working out or not. I feel like my body stays hydrated a lot longer and that I don’t feel the ill effects of dehydration. Plus, drinking something slightly salty makes me want to drink even MORE liquid so I never feel like I am skimping out on my fluid intake. Plus, I mean… it’s lemonade and lemonade is awesome!

This recipe for homemade electrolyte lemonade uses stevia to sweeten. Feel free to leave sweetener out if you are on a Whole30 or choose another sweetener that suits your lifestyle.
