If you’ve ever been in a situation where you need to defrost chicken quickly, you’ll be happy to know that there is a sous vide method that can help. This method is especially helpful if you are short on time or if you need to defrost a large quantity of chicken breast for a meal.

Sous vide is a French term that means “under vacuum”. In sous vide cooking, food is sealed in a plastic bag and then cooked in a water bath at a low temperature. This method of cooking helps to retain the moisture and flavors of the food.

While the sous vide is helpful for cooking foods, you can also use it to thaw and defrost frozen foods. You’ll simply add frozen chicken breast to a freezer-safe bag with as much air removed as possible.

Then, set your sous vide to its lowest temperature and place it in a cold water bath. The circulating cold water will defrost it in no time so you can use it to cook your favorite dishes!

🐔 Ingredients & Tools

  • Sous Vide – I’m a big fan of the Anova brand of sous vide equipment, however you can use any immersion circulator you enjoy.
  • Large Pot – You’ll need a large pot or water bath container that will fully submerge the circulating portion of the sous vide as well as fully submerge the chicken breast.
  • Freezer Safe Zip Top Bag – A freezer safe bag is best as it is stronger and can hold up to varying temperatures.
  • Frozen Chicken Breast – You can also use this method to thaw chicken thighs, chicken wings, or chicken drumsticks that are frozen.
