🍎What You’ll Need

Apple Filling:

  • Fresh Apple â€“ A great way to use up apples when in season! You can use any apple you enjoy though tart and firm apples such as granny smith or Fuji tend to work best.
  • Lemon Juice – A small amount of lemon juice helps balance out the sweetness in the apples and helps keep them from oxidizing.
  • Brown Sugar â€“ Caramelizes the apples bringing sweet, toffee-like flavors to this dessert.
  • Butter â€“ Adds a buttery flavor and rich moisture to the filling.
  • Cinnamon â€“ Adds a light warming flavor that makes this dessert full of comfort.

FOR THE TOPPING:

  • Flour â€“ Acts as a binder for all of the ingredients and helps make the top nice and crunchy when air fried.
  • Rolled Oats â€“ Adds a nutty flavor and texture to the top that is classic in fruit crumble recipes.
  • Butter â€“ Adds flavor, and moisture and helps the topping become golden brown and toasted in the air fryer.
  • Brown Sugar â€“ Adds pleasant sugary-sweet flavor.
  • Cinnamon â€“ Compliments the warming flavors in the apple filling.
  • FOR SERVING (optional): vanilla ice cream and/or whipped cream.

Tools:

  • Air Fryer or Ninja Foodi – You can use any air fryer you have for as many ramekins that will fit in the bottom of the air fryer basket. We love the Ninja Foodi because of its versatility and quality.
  • Ramekin – A small baking dish perfect for air frying single servings that is heat safe.

👩🏻‍🍳Chef’s Tips

Before making this easy air fryer dessert, make sure your ramekins are heat safe up to 375 degrees.

If you don’t have ramekins, you can use a small air fryer-safe bowl or baking dish. Just keep in mind the cooking time may differ slightly.

The time it takes to fully cook the apples will depend on your individual air fryer and how large you slice your apples. For best results cut the apples even in size. If your apples aren’t fully cooked through in 10-12 minutes, add more cooking time in 3-5 minute intervals.

This air fryer apple crumble recipe is easily doubled, tripled, or quadrupled to make multiple servings at once. Simply use a larger baking dish that will fit at the bottom of the air fryer basket and increase the cooking time by a few minutes if necessary.

🍏Variations

If it’s summertime and peaches are in season, swap out the apples and make Air Fryer Peach Cobbler instead!

For a little extra decadence, top your air fryer crumble with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

If you don’t have rolled oats on hand, you can use chopped nuts such as pecans or walnuts instead. Just keep in mind that the texture will be slightly different.

Instead of cinnamon, use pumpkin pie spice in the filling and topping to add warming fall flavor to the dessert.
