I like using canned white tuna, also known as albacore because its firmer texture and has a mild flavor compared to light tuna. Albacore offers chunkier pieces that mix well with other ingredients without becoming mushy.

For a balance of flavor, texture, and health considerations, albacore tuna packed in water is my go-to choice for making tuna salad. It provides a clean taste and allows the flavors of the other salad ingredients to shine through!

  • Canned Tuna – Use any type of canned tuna you enjoy for this recipe. We love using chunk light. Popular brands include StarKist, BumbleBee, Great Value, Good and Gather, Kirkland or any other store brand.
  • Mayonnaise – For paleo and Whole30 purposes, use a compliant store-bought mayo or make avocado mayo from scratch. Otherwise, use any full-fat quality mayo.
  • Celery & Red Onion – This veggie duo brings fresh flavor, crunch, and a pop of color to improve presentation.
  • Everything Bagel Seasoning – Trader Joe’s began selling “everything but the bagel seasoning” several years ago, and it’s since become a spice rack staple. You can find it pretty much everywhere these days. McCormick, Great Value, Simple Truth, Members Mark, and the store brand at Aldi are good options. 

🥯DIY Everything Bagel Seasoning

Everything bagel seasoning is made with the same ingredients baked into the iconic everything bagel flavor. It’s typically made with poppy & sesame seeds, dried garlic & onion, and salt. In other words, everything on an everything bagel!

While it’s been on bagels for decades, the seasoning had a resurgence in popularity due to Trader Joe’s Everything But The Bagel Seasoning being sold in stores (followed by other stores like Aldi, Walmart, and Whole Foods). If you want to make your own homemade seasoning, try these seasoning amounts and adjust by adding or lessening your favorite ingredients!

For a 4 ounce jar of everything bagel seasoning, you’ll need:

  • 2 tablespoons poppy seeds
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds (white, black, or a mix)
  • 1 tablespoon dried garlic flakes
  • 1 tablespoon dried onion flakes
  • 2 teaspoons coarse sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper (optional, for added spice)
  • OPTIONAL: For a hint of herb flavor, add 1/4 teaspoon of dried oregano

1️⃣ Dice vegetables. First, dice the onion and celery into small cubes.
