🍚 Ingredients & Tools
- Rice – For this recipe, Jasmine rice was used however you can use any type of uncooked rice you enjoy.
- Water – Used to absorb into the rice as it cooks. Check below for the proper water to rice ratio.
- Salt – Seasons the rice. You can use your favorite seasonings to infuse the rice with flavor.
- Butter or Oil (OPTIONAL) – Although optional, adding 2 teaspoons of butter or oil per cup of rice helps keep the rice from sticking together.

- Zip-top Freezer Safe Bag – A freezer-safe bag is best to use when cooking with the sous vide method as they are stronger than regular plastic bags.
- Immersion Circulator – I enjoy using the Anova brand immersion circulator as I love the app and support, however, you can use any immersion circulator.
🥣 How To Make Rice Using An Immersion Circulator (Sous Vide)
1️⃣ Step One: Combine rinsed rice, water, and salt in a zip-top bag. Removing as much air as possible using the water displacement method.
2️⃣ Step Two: Submerge the bag in your immersion circulator or sous vide cooker and set the temperature to 197-200F degrees Fahrenheit.
3️⃣ Step Three: Cook for 30 minutes or until the water is completely absorbed. Remove from heat and allow to rest for an additional five minutes before opening and fluffing with a fork.
💧Proper Water To Rice Ratio
When cooking rice using the sous vide method, it is important to use the correct water to rice ratio. The general rule for cooking rice is 1 cup of water to 1 cup of rice. When you see more water per cup, it usually accounts for evaporation which does not happen with the sous vide method.
However, if you like your rice a bit more fluffy, use 1 cup of rice per 1 1/4 cups of water. Feel free to play around to find your perfect ratio and rice texture.

- It’s always a good idea to rinse rice before cooking because it helps to remove any excess starch.
- Although optional, adding a teaspoon of oil to the rice before cooking can help prevent it from sticking together.
- Do not use pre-cooked or parboiled rice. This recipe is for plain uncooked rice.
- If you are not using a vacuum sealer, make sure to massage the bag every few minutes to prevent the rice from sticking.

Freezing: If you are planning on freezing your cooked rice, it is best to do so before adding any seasonings. This will help maintain the flavor of the rice. Once frozen, you can add your favorite seasonings. To freeze, place the desired amount of cooked rice in a quart-sized freezer-safe bag. Squeeze out all the air and freeze for up to two months.
