When it comes to paleo and Whole30 compliant condiments, the recipe developers at Primal Kitchen know what they’re doing. Each recipe is carefully crafted with real, whole-food ingredients. The dressings are just as delicious as their less healthy counterparts.

Don’t get me wrong. Primal Kitchen avocado mayo is delightful, but I prefer the taste of homemade mayo much more.

👉 Homemade Avocado Mayo VS Primal Kitchen

Typically, making paleo and Whole30 compliant condiments from scratch costs much less than Whole30 approved products.

However, Primal Kitchen avocado mayo costs almost the same as purchasing the ingredients separately and making it yourself (as if I needed more reason to love that company 🥰). Let’s talk numbers.

  • Average price of a 12 ounce jar of Primal Kitchen Avocado Mayo: $9.95 or .83 per ounce
  • Average price of homemade mayo ingredients: .71 per ounce
  • 1-1/4 cups Avocado Oil: .34 (based on $9.99 liter-size jar from Costco)
  • Half of a Lemon: .15
  • 1 Egg: .16
  • 1 tsp ground mustard powder: .03
  • Salt/Pepper: .03

🥑 Ingredients You’ll Need

A few important notes about the ingredients:

  • Avocado Oil: Neutral-flavored oil, like avocado, is a non-negotiable ingredient. You can make one-minute mayo with olive oil, but do NOT -I repeat do NOT use extra virgin olive oil.
  • Lemon Juice: A splash of citric acid form half of a lemon adds subtle tangy flavor and helps thicken the mayonaiise.
  • Egg: For the best results, be sure to use a fresh, room temperature egg.
  • Ground Mustard Powder: gives it a little zing!
  • Salt & Pepper: to enhance every flavor.

📖 How To Make Avocado Mayonaisse

1️⃣ Combine ingredients.
Pour the avocado oil, lemon juice, egg, mustard powder, salt, and pepper into a wide-mouth mason jar or a large glass container.

2️⃣ Emulify ingredients.
Submerge the immersion blender into the jar until it reaches the bottom. Then, turn the blender on and begin blending. As the mixture thickens, slowly lift the immersion blender to the top of the jar until the ingredients are emulsified from top to bottom.

🤓 Recipe Tips

  • Make sure you’re working with room temperature ingredients. Otherwise, you may have trouble getting the mayonnaise to thicken.
  • Blend the mayo with TLC. The slower you lift the immersion blender up through the ingredients, the thicker and creamier your mayo will be.
  • If you don’t have an immersion blender, you can throw everything but the oil in a blender or food processor. Start blending and then SLOWLY drizzle in the avocado oil.

🔀 Variations
