Chicken Parmesan has always been one of my absolute favorite dishes, especially as an Italian who grew up on the Jersey Shore. Whenever we went to Italian restaurants like Olive Garden or Maggiano’s, chicken parmesan was always my go-to order!

But let’s be honest, it’s rare that I can finish an entire serving in one sitting, those portions are huge! So, I’ve had my fair share of leftovers over the years, and I’ve perfected the art of reheating chicken parm so it tastes just as good the next day (or even a few days later). Whether you’re using an oven, microwave, or air fryer, I’ve got you covered to make sure your chicken dinner leftovers retains its delicious flavor and texture.

💫Which Is The Best Way?

This depends on which method you have available and what result you’re looking to get. My personal opinion is that reheating chicken in the air fryer is the BEST way because it uses dry circulating heat to make it crispy on the outside while keeping the inside warm and tender.

MethodProsCons
Oven– Retains crispy texture
– Even reheating
– Great flavor
– Takes longer
– Requires preheating
Microwave– Quick and convenient
– No preheating required
– Can result in soggy texture
– Uneven heating
Air Fryer– Retains crispiness
– Quick reheating
– No need to preheat
– May not fit large portions
– Can dry out if not monitored

📖How To Reheat Chicken Parm In Air Fryer

  • 1️⃣Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  • 2️⃣Place the chicken Parmesan in the air fryer basket in a single layer. If your chicken is thick, it will take longer to cook, which can burn the cheese. Wrap in aluminum foil for the first half of the cooking time if necessary to prevent the cheese from burning.
  • 3️⃣Cook the chicken Parmesan in the air fryer for about 6-8 minutes or until the chicken is fully warmed through, the outside is crispy, and the cheese is melted.
  • 4️⃣Once heated, remove it from the air fryer with tongs, and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Note: How long it takes to reheat chicken parm in the air fryer depends on how thick and large the pieces of chicken are. Start with 6-8 minutes and add additional cooking time if needed.

📖How To Reheat Chicken Parmesan In The Oven

  • 1️⃣Preheat your oven to a medium heat of 350°F (175°C).
  • 2️⃣Place the chicken Parmesan on a baking sheet or in an oven-safe dish, pan, or skillet.
  • 3️⃣Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the chicken is heated through. Add 5-8 minutes of baking time if you have thick pieces of chicken.
  • 4️⃣Once heated, remove from the oven, and let it cool for a few minutes before serving

📖How To Reheat Chicken Parmesan In The Microwave

  • 1️⃣Place the leftover chicken Parmesan on a microwave-safe plate.
  • 2️⃣Cover the plate with a microwave-safe lid or microwave-safe plastic wrap to retain moisture.
  • 3️⃣Microwave on medium-high power for 90 seconds.
  • 4️⃣Carefully remove the plate from the microwave and check the temperature of the chicken. If needed, continue microwaving in 30-second intervals until the desired temperature is reached.
  • 5️⃣Let it rest for a minute or two before serving.

👩‍🍳Expert Tips for Perfectly Reheated Chicken Parmesan

  • Preserve the Crispy Coating: To maintain the crispy coating of the chicken, avoid using the microwave, as it can make the breading soggy. Instead, opt for reheating methods like the oven or air fryer, which will help retain the desirable crunch.
  • Use Aluminum Foil: When reheating chicken Parmesan in the oven, cover the dish loosely with aluminum foil to prevent the cheese from burning or drying out if your pieces of chicken are on the thicker side. This will ensure that the cheese melts evenly while keeping the chicken moist.
  • Reheat in Small Portions: If you have a large quantity of leftover chicken Parmesan, it’s best to reheat it in smaller portions. This will allow for more even heating, preventing some pieces from becoming overcooked while others remain cold.
  • Monitor the Temperature: Use a food thermometer to check the internal temperature of the chicken. Reheated chicken Parmesan should reach an internal temperature of at least 165°F (74°C) to ensure it is thoroughly heated and safe to consume.
  • Let it Rest: After reheating, allow the chicken Parmesan to rest for a few minutes before serving. This helps the flavors to settle and the cheese to set, ensuring a more enjoyable eating experience.
