When Bonefish Grill first opened up in my hometown, we were excited to try the infamous bang bang shrimp that became super popular in such a short amount of time.

Turns out it’s really delicious!

💭Is Bang Bang Shrimp Keto?

The bang bang shrimp you will find at restaurants is not keto, however this recipe was made for those who want to enjoy a tasty keto shrimp dish.

💭Is Bang Bang Sauce The Same As Boom Boom Sauce?

The sauce has bang bang in it in order to portray the slightly spicy kick from the thai chili sauce or sriracha that gets mixed in.

Boom Boom sauce was popularized by Sheetz gas stations and convenience stores which tastes somewhat similar but is made with less clean ingredients like soybean oil.

It’s easy to make homemade Bang Bang sauce for a lot cheaper and a bit more healthy for you!

🍲How To Make Keto Bang Bang Sauce

1️⃣ In a bowl, add mayo, Sriracha, coconut aminos or soy sauce, garlic powder and black pepper.

2️⃣ Whisk together until evenly combined.

3️⃣ Sauce will last refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

🍤How To Make Keto Breaded Shrimp

1️⃣ Prepare Your Shrimp Station: Dry your shrimp with a paper towel. In one medium sized bowl, add almond flour, parmesan cheese, garlic powder and black pepper, combine until evenly distributed In another bowl, add one beaten egg.

2️⃣ Bread The Shrimp: Coat each piece of shrimp in egg then dredge in almond flour and parmesan mixture until evenly coated until all shrimp are coated in mixture.

3️⃣ Fry The Shrimp: In a large skillet, add 2 tbsp avocado oil and heat over medium high heat. Once oil is heated, add in shrimp and cook 1-2 minutes on each side or until shrimp becomes pink all the way through. Set on a paper towel once cooked. If you’d rather bake this shrimp in the oven, grease a sheet pan and bake shrimp at 375 degrees flipping halfway through for 15-20 minutes or until shrimp is pink and cooked through.

🦐Air Fryer Shrimp

You could also make this shrimp in the air fryer or Ninja Foodi!

1️⃣ Grease your air fryer basket with oil.

2️⃣ Air fry shrimp at 375 degrees for 5-6 minutes, then flipping over.

3️⃣ Continue to cook another 5-6 minutes or until shrimp is pink and fully cooked through.

🍽 How To Serve Keto Bang Bang Shrimp

  • Skewer up the shrimp and drizzle the sauce on top for a fancy appetizer.
  • Serve over keto pasta or miracle noodles.
  • Serve over cauliflower rice.
  • Add them to lettuce wraps
  • Toss them into a stir fry and drizzle with bang bang sauce

This was great! I’m trying to cook a bit healthier and this was just perfect! I did switch the sriracha with Thai sweet chili so it couldn’t be spicy.

  2. I was unable to find the oven instructions for this dish. I do not like frying foods, at all! Can someone please give me an idea? Oven temp and time? Breaded shrimp is a tricky oven dish and I hope so one has done this in the oven! Thanks!

    1. Hi, Sherry! My best bet would be baking the shrimp on a parchment-paper-lined baking sheet for 10 to 12 minutes, flipping halfway through. -Krista (Team Thyme & JOY)

I made 4lbs of shrimp last night because my family of 5 LOVES this recipe!! So, so, good. It did take awhile to bread it all, but there was not one complaint at how long it was taking because everyone was so excited for the end result!! Haha! My husband said the breading was “super legit, never would I have known this is keto!” And that bang bang sauce?! Get outta here! Delish! Served the shrimp with cauliflower fried rice. Thank you, I will be making this again.
