🌶️Bang Bang Sauce Ingredients

  • Mayonnaise – Provides a creamy, rich base that carries the other flavors well, adding a smooth texture and helping to balance the heat from the other ingredients.
  • Sriracha – Contributes a spicy kick that’s integral to the sauce’s flavor profile while also adding a slight tanginess that enhances the overall taste.
  • Soy Sauce (or coconut aminos) – Adds a salty, umami element that deepens the flavor complexity; coconut aminos offer a soy-free, slightly sweeter alternative for those with allergies or dietary preferences.
  • Garlic Powder – Infuses the sauce with a warm, savory note that complements the spicy components, contributing to the depth of flavor.
  • Black Pepper – Introduces a subtle heat and a hint of sharpness, rounding out the sauce’s flavor and adding an extra layer of spice.

🥥Variations and Substitutions

  • Whole30: To make this recipe Whole30-compliant, ensure your mayonnaise is approved or homemade without added sugars or artificial ingredients, and use coconut aminos instead of soy sauce. Also, replace the sweet chili sauce with a Whole30-compliant hot sauce or make your own chili sauce using compliant ingredients.
  • With coconut flour: For a different texture or if you’re allergic to nuts, substitute almond flour with coconut flour for the breading in bang bang keto shrimp, but be mindful that coconut flour absorbs more moisture so you may need to adjust the quantity used or add more liquid ingredients to achieve the desired consistency.
  • Keto firecracker shrimp: Infuse your shrimp with a sweet and spicy flavor by making a firecracker sauce consisting of low-carb hot sauce, a keto-friendly sweetener like erythritol, and a dash of apple cider vinegar for tanginess, then follow the same breading and cooking process as the Bang Bang Shrimp.
  • Keto boom boom shrimp: To create Boom Boom Shrimp, prepare a sauce using mayonnaise, keto-friendly chili garlic sauce, and a bit of tomato paste or sugar-free ketchup for tanginess and color, ensuring all ingredients meet keto dietary guidelines.
  • Adding heat: If you prefer your shrimp spicier, consider increasing the amount of Sriracha or adding a dash of cayenne pepper to the sauce for an extra kick.
  • Dairy-free option: If you’re avoiding dairy, you can omit the Parmesan in the breading and use nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor or simply use an all-flour mixture, ensuring to adjust the wet components for proper adherence.
  • Using a different protein: If you’re not a fan of shrimp or have an allergy, this recipe can easily be adapted for other proteins like chicken (cut into bite-size pieces) or tofu (pressed and cubed) for a vegetarian option, maintaining the same breading and cooking method.

This was great! I’m trying to cook a bit healthier and this was just perfect! I did switch the sriracha with Thai sweet chili so it couldn’t be spicy.
