Let’s face it, cabbage can be a really boring vegetable, but it doesn’t have to be! Cabbage is a budget friendly vegetable that adds bulk and nutrition to any meal.  Roasting cabbage in your air fryer is a great way to get a healthy side dish next to your meal or to use in mixing into other meals. It cooks quickly and takes on whatever flavor you season it with.

I air fry cabbage using my Ninja Foodi, an all in one cooking gadget that is a pressure cooker, air fryer and slow cooker all in one. Ninja Foodi also makes dedicated air fryers and the Ninja Foodi Grill that you can also use to make this recipe using the air fryer function.

🤔Why Make Cabbage In The Air Fryer?

It’s Budget Friendly. A head of green cabbage can be found at any grocery store and is relatively inexpensive to other vegetables making it a great option.

Customize the flavor. The beauty of cabbage is that it takes on whatever flavor you season it with making endless flavor possibilities.

It takes 15 minutes or less. Since cabbage is a delicate vegetable, it doesn’t need much time to cook in a convection style oven like the air fryer which means it cooks up fast!

Serve it with anything. Cabbage can be served alongside corned beef, potatoes, sausages or next to any main course, especially for those on keto and low carb diets.

3 Ingredient Side Dish. You’ll only need 3 ingredients to make this happen, cabbage, cooking oil and your favorite seasoning.

🥗Ingredients You’ll Need

Head of Green Cabbage – Depending on the size of your air fryer basket, you’ll need a small to medium sized head of green or red cabbage.

Avocado Oil – I love using avocado oil to cook with because it has a high smoke point and is much healthier than canola or vegetable oil.

Salt & Pepper – use a mix of salt and pepper to season your cabbage or use whichever seasoning you prefer.

📖How To Make Air Fryer Cabbage

1️⃣ Preheat your air fryer to 400F.

2️⃣ Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage exposing a clean fresh layer. Cut in half, then in quarters so you are able to chop out the pieces of the core.

3️⃣ Take remaining pieces and cut them into 2” wedges. They will likely fall apart while chopping and tossing.

4️⃣ Add chopped cabbage to a large bowl. Drizzle with oil, sprinkle with seasonings then toss together until cabbage is coated in oil and seasonings.

5️⃣ Add to your preheated air fryer and cook for 10 minutes making sure to toss halfway through. The result will be perfectly cooked cabbage that is not over cooked and soggy.

📝NOTE: Air fryers vary in temperature so make sure you adjust cooking time accordingly.

🟣Air Fryer Red or Purple Cabbage

The structure and texture of red cabbage is tougher than green cabbage which means it may need a longer cooking time.

  1. Cut red cabbage into 2” wedges.
  2. Toss with oil & seasonings.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 400F
  4. Add cabbage and cook for 10 minutes tossing halfway through with tongs.
  5. Add 2-3 minutes of cooking time as needed.

👩🏻‍🍳Chef’s Tips

Make sure you cut your cabbage into 2 inch pieces to make sure it cooks evenly and prevents the chance of the cabbage getting soggy.

How long to cook air fryer cabbage depends on the type of cabbage used and the temperature of your air fryer. 400F at 10 minutes is a good starting place, toss halfway with tongs and adjust from there.

You may need to air fry cabbage in batches depending on the size of your air fryer basket and size of  your cabbage.
