Whole30 Coleslaw

This quick and easy Whole30 Coleslaw recipe comes together in minutes and is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Using pantry staple ingredients and a little help from store-bought coleslaw salad mix, dinner will be served in no time.

There are two teams when it comes to coleslaw, vinegar based coleslaw and mayo based coleslaw. Although I find myself somewhere in the middle of these too, mayo based coleslaw always wins for me.

This recipe is Whole30 compliant and contains no sugar or sweetener making it a great side dish and low carb option for whatever way you like to eat.

🥗Is Coleslaw Whole30?

Not only is Coleslaw Whole30 compliant, in many ways, it’s also the perfect the Whole30 side dish. Packed full of high fiber, nutrient-dense, vegetables with a healthy amount of platted fat, all that needs to be added is a delicious protein and dinner is ready.

Coleslaw is also classic comfort food that people love, Whole30 or not, so families and guests will keep coming back for more. You can serve it at a summer BBQ or as a side dish for any meal!

💗Why you’ll love this Whole30 Coleslaw

It’s super quick and comes together in minutes.

It requires only a few ingredients, many of which you likely already have.

It’s Whole30 compliant, dairy-free and great for paleo and keto lifestyles.

It is homemade comfort food that you can feel good about.

🌿Classic Coleslaw Dressing Recipe Ingredients

Coleslaw Mix: Taking a little help from the grocery store, a bag of Coleslaw Mix with cabbage and carrots is the base. You can make your own at home too.

Mayonnaise: Store-bought compliant mayonnaise like Primal Kitchen, Sir Kensington’s or Tessemae’s can be used. You can use vegan mayonnaise, or you can make your own Whole30 mayonnaise

Apple Cider Vinegar: The acid from the apple cider vinegar balances out the mayo and adds a delicious tang.

Spices: Ground mustard and celery seed add flavor. Salt and pepper enhance all the flavor of the vegetables.

Green Onion: Chopped green onion adds color and freshness for a mild onion flavor. You could also use shallots or thinly sliced red onion.

💭Why make your own mayo for Whole30 Coleslaw?

Homemade mayonnaise, like my One Minute Mayo, comes together faster than you can open a new jar of the store-bought stuff.

When you make your own homemade mayonnaise you control the quality of the ingredients.

Homemade mayo gives you the ability to add more flavor variety and control over how your food tastes. If you like more mustard or garlic in your mayonnaise, add it!

📖How to make Whole30 Coleslaw

1️⃣ In a large bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, ground mustard, celery seed, salt, and pepper until all ingredients are fully combined,

2️⃣ Add in coleslaw mix (or homemade blend if you like to shred cabbage) along with green onion and toss everything together until evenly coated. Let it sit and marinate in the fridge for 30 minutes and serve cold.

💭How long will Whole30 Coleslaw last?

Coleslaw is best served right away as the vegetables will start to break down and become soft after they are mixed with the dressing. However, coleslaw will last for 3 to 5 days in the refrigerator if properly stored in an airtight container though the texture will get a bit softer each day.

💭What can you serve with Whole30 Coleslaw?

It’s better to ask, what can’t you serve? The options are limitless as it can be served as a side dish to proteins like chicken, steak, or pork. Some of my favorite quick and easy dinners to pair it with are:
