frozen biscuits in the air fryer

Let’s face it, breakfast is one of the busiest meals we eat, especially on a weekday! Most people are rushing to get out the door and doing their best to make sure they eat something filling and satisfying, but it’s not easy.

The air fryer is such a big help when it comes to making breakfast foods, you can cook your bacon, breakfast sausage, and hashbrowns right in the air fryer in much less time. If you want to add a fluffy biscuit to the mix, you can do that too by cooking fluffy buttermilk biscuits in your air fryer straight from frozen.

Let’s not forget that we use biscuits for dinner, too! Pair them with a Chicken Pot Pie or some Instant Pot Short Ribs to round out a satisfying meal.

Shouldn’t I just use the cooking directions on the bag?

Since the air fryer is a small convection oven, it uses dry heat to circulate air around the food making it cook fast. This means that the time and temperature may need to be adjusted in order to not only thaw a biscuit but be able to warm it through on the inside and make it nice and crunchy on the outside.

Why make biscuits in the air fryer?

There’s less to clean up. You won’t need to drag out a baking sheet line it and clean it. Just simply place the frozen biscuits right on the air fryer basket!

There’s no better texture than an air-fried biscuit. I don’t know about you, but I really enjoy a biscuit that is super crunchy on the outside while still being soft and pillowy on the inside.

They cook way faster than baking them in the oven. This is because there is continuous dry circulating heat that gets to cook up all the surfaces in just the right way.

No babysitting. Besides maybe a flip halfway through, you won’t need to babysit the biscuits making more time for you to cook eggs or help everyone get ready and out the door.

They’re perfect for dinner, too! Biscuits are such a versatile food and can be used as a side dish or an appetizer for dinner. Make your frozen biscuits in the air fryer while cooking other things!

🥣 What You’ll Need To Make Air Fryer Frozen Biscuits

Frozen Biscuits – You can buy biscuits in the refrigerated section in the tube, you can buy precooked biscuits in the freezer section. I like using frozen biscuits in a pinch because they are already cooked which shortens the cooking time immensely. Our favorites include frozen Pillsbury Grands, GreatValue (Walmart), Mary B’s Buttermilk Biscuits, or the generic ones at the grocery store.

Air Fryer or Ninja Foodi – The options for air fryers these days are endless, and for good reason! You can use any air fryer to use this method for cooking biscuits. My favorite air fryer to use is in combination with Ninja Foodi products. I own the Ninja Foodi multicooker, Ninja Foodi Grill and Ninja Foodi Dual air fryer basket combo, all of which are quality sturdy convection ovens!

🍪 How To Air Fry Frozen Biscuits

1️⃣ Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees. Don’t go any higher than this or the biscuits may cook too quickly on the outside and won’t be warmed through on the inside. Most air fryers will take 3-5 minutes to preheat.

2️⃣ Place frozen biscuits on the bottom of your air fryer basket in a single layer with at least ½ inch of room in between them, and set the timer for 15 minutes.

3️⃣ After 10 minutes, use a spatula or tongs to check and see if they need more time. When they are finished, top should be golden brown and the inside will be cooked through. If they are not finished cooking after 10 minutes, air fry in 2-3 minute intervals until cooked. Remove from air fryer with tongs and serve hot.

How Long To Air Fry Frozen Biscuits

The amount of time it takes to air fry a frozen biscuit depends on how large it is and how thick it is. These are general recommendations.  The typical sausage patty needs about 10 minutes to cook at a temperature of 350F depending on its thickness. Always check regularly within the last 5 minutes of cooking as you may need to add a couple of minutes or take away a couple of minutes to the cooking time total to ensure they don’t burn or overcook.

Standard-Sized Buttermilk Biscuits – 8-10 minutes at 350F

Grands Homestyle Biscuits – 8-10 minutes at 350F

Smaller Frozen Biscuits  – 8-10 minutes at 325F

Storing & Reheating

Storing: Leftover air-fried biscuits can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.

Reheating: Reheat leftover biscuits in a 300F preheated air fryer for 8-10 minutes or until warmed through and crispy on the outside.

Can you put canned biscuits in the air fryer?

You can, but it takes a bit more patience as because they are raw, the dough may start to seep through the grates, and adding parchment at the bottom will keep the air from circulating around them properly. They also cook too fast on the outside as well which is why frozen biscuits in the air fryer are preferred.

Should I add oil to when using my air fryer?

There’s no need to add any additional oil to the biscuits before air frying as the dry circulating heat will crisp them up perfectly. Some suggest a thin layer of cooking oil on the bottom of the air fryer basket to grease, but I found this unnecessary with frozen biscuits.

What temperature do you air fry frozen biscuits at?

I’ve found that 350F seems to be the sweet spot. Since the biscuits are both thawing and cooking at the same time, you want to make sure that the temperature isn’t too high. For extra small biscuits, try cooking at 325F with a longer cooking time.

Do I need to preheat my air fryer?

Generally for frozen foods, I like to preheat my air fryer. Once the dry heat starts circulating the moisture evaporates and the biscuits begin to thaw and cook quicker.

Can I add aluminum foil to my air fryer?

I like to put the foil UNDER the basket to catch any excess crumbs that may fall to the bottom. . This eliminates the need to clean the entire air fryer and you’ll just need to clean the basket. WARNING: If the foil is in a position where it can become loose, it may get sucked into the heating element when the air circulates so be sure it’s weighed down properly.

Can I bake in the air fryer?

Some air fryers like the Ninja Foodi Grill do have a bake or roast setting. This means that the heat will come from the top but not circulate around. Because of this, the cooking time will be longer and the food will be cooked from the top down resulting in a difference in texture.
