As a chef with a busy household, I crave restaurant quality at home that’s quick and easy to make. The air fryer delivers perfectly crispy potatoes in record time which is great for my schedule and great for my family!

Using an air fryer to make crispy potatoes is undeniably the best cooking method, and here’s why: The cooking time is drastically reduced due to the dry circulating heat, ensuring that in  20 minutes, you have potatoes with an unbeatable crispy exterior and a soft, fluffy interior. The air fryer requires only a minimal amount of oil. This not only results in healthier potatoes but also achieves that perfect texture, balancing crunchiness with tenderness. The design of the air fryer ensures that any grease produced during cooking is caught, sparing you the typical oily mess and extensive cleanup associated with other cooking methods.

When it comes to air frying, potato choice can make a marked difference in the outcome. Baby potatoes, with their tender skins, cook evenly and are bite sized. Red potatoes bring a slightly waxy texture, ensuring a soft interior beneath that desired crispy layer. Golden potatoes, are high in starch, making them ideal for retaining shape and achieving that perfect crunch. That’s why I love use them to make ninja air fryer potatoes!

🥷🏻Ninja Foodi Potatoes

Let’s be honest, I own 3 different types of air fryers. My favorite through and through is the Ninja Foodi. The Ninja Foodi is not just another kitchen gadget; it’s a game-changer in my kitchen! It combines multiple cooking functions, one of which is its air crisp method. When you cook potatoes in the Ninja Foodi, the results are consistently impeccable, rivaling even some of the top standalone air fryers.

Ninja Foodi air fryer potatoes have the perfect balance of a crispy exterior and a soft, fluffy inside. Many people who’ve tried potatoes in the Ninja air fryer can tell the difference when using another air fryer brand. Whether you’re looking to prepare potatoes in air fryer Ninja style or utilize its other functions, it’s a top choice!

🥔 Ingredients

  • Golden Potatoes – have a high starch content, so they hold up their shape when roasting (or in this case air frying). You can use red potatoes, fingerlings, baby potatoes, etc.
  • Avocado Oil – coats the potatoes, making them crisp when cooked.
  • Garlic Powder – adds flavor.
  • Paprika – adds flavor and color.
  • Salt & Ground Black Pepper – enhances the flavor. Salt, pepper, garlic powder and paprika are my go to simple seasonings, but you can use any seasonings you like.

📖 How To Cook Potatoes In Air Fryer

1️⃣ Prep potatoes. After washing your potatoes, dice into half inch cubes. In a large bowl, toss them with oil and seasonings.

2️⃣ Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees. Add prepped potatoes to basket. Cook for about 20 minutes, flipping the potatoes or shaking the basket a couple of times (every 7 minutes or so).

👩🏻‍🍳Chef Val’s Cooking Tips

  • Make them your own by using other seasonings like rosemary, thyme, cumin, curry powder, chili flakes, minced garlic, parmesan, oregano, dill, Cajun spice, lemon zest, or smoked paprika.
  • Dice, wedge, or slice sweet potatoes to make sweet potatoes in the air fryer
  • Whether making cubes, wedges, or slices, make sure the potatoes are uniform in size.
  • Choose fresh and firm golden potatoes for the best texture and flavor outcome.
  • After washing your potatoes, dry thoroughly before seasoning. Excess moisture can inhibit crisping in the air fryer.
  • When tossing the potatoes in avocado oil, ensure they are well-coated but not drenched, as too much oil can make them soggy instead of crispy.
  • Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. The potatoes don’t necessarily have to be in a single layer, but ensure there’s ample space for hot air to circulate.
  • Set a midway timer reminder for the 10-minute mark. This ensures you don’t forget to toss and rotate the potatoes.

FAQ

Why do my potatoes not get crispy in the air fryer?

There could be several reasons. Overcrowding the basket can prevent even air circulation, and not using enough oil or having unevenly sized potato pieces can also impact crispiness.

Can raw potatoes be cooked in an air fryer?

Absolutely! Transform raw potatoes in Ninja Foodi into deliciously crispy treats in the air fryer. Just make sure they’re properly seasoned and coated with a bit of oil, and you’ll achieve that desired crispiness in no time.

What Ninja Foodi model is best for cooking potatoes?

The Ninja Foodi line has several models, but for cooking potatoes, any model with the air frying or “air crisp” function will do a great job.

Do I need to season my potatoes before or after air frying?

Seasoning your potatoes before air frying ensures that the flavors get cooked into the potatoes, providing a deeper and more aromatic taste. However, you can also sprinkle some seasonings or herbs afterward for a fresh burst of flavor.
