Spring is here! Even if I didn’t get to look outside, I could always tell what season it is based on my current traffic. With the start of Q2 approaching, we are headed straight to our low-traffic season, especially as the world opens up again.

Here are some noteworthy things that happened in March:

  • Google Updates: Traffic did go down this month and continues to decrease but I will say that the current google algorithm updates have increased my rankings and organic traffic dramatically. This makes me happy because it means that I’m doing something somewhat right in the eyes of search engines . . . at least for now.
  • Pinterest Traffic: Pinterest definitely dealt a big blow to bloggers this month by making a huge change. I’m not sure what they did but within one week my engagement and numbers were down quite a bit. In fact, during the month of March, I lost 20% of my Pinterest traffic. Although some do have to do with fewer people being online, most of it was due to changes. This further proves why diversity in traffic (and income) is important and SEO should always be the bigger focus!
  • Ghostwriting Business: Things are going pretty well with my small ghostwriting business! This month I was able to find my threshold of how much I can handle per month and more importantly, I made sure it can fit in with a better work/life balance. I’m finally getting wise enough to realize that there’s not much point in making more money if you truly cant enjoy it. There were some challenges this month that have to do with creating and setting up systems for the future, but I’m working through those and they will get better with time!
  • Hiring Help: One of the best things I’ve done this month was hire a writer to take on clients but to also help me with my own blog. Sometimes it’s hard to invest money into something you could “just do yourself” but the help is proving to be a valuable asset and will continue to help grow both sides of the business.
  • Less Focus On Influencing: I fell off the Instagram bandwagon once again, but are you really surprised? As much as I like catching up and sharing things, influencing is just not a title I really want to hold in a big way. This means that I won’t get big opportunities with brands and have all the big stats, but I honestly feel like none of that means success to me. All the success is going on behind the scenes building a business, and building my skills and relationships with other bloggers that will move me forward in big ways. I’ve made peace with not being “big” on social media and it really feels much better mentally!
