Blog Income Report February 2022

Blog Income Report February 2022: Find out how I made $5388.29 through my blog with various strategies such as Ad income and affiliate marketing.

February is a short month though RPM’s start to rise back up which definitely helps. I’ve made some changes to an increase in publishing to hopefully increase traffic over time.

💭 What Happened In February 2022

February Traffic & RPM’s

Reading through my other income reports, you may see that last year was foundational in increasing my RPM. This is the first full year I have properly formatted posts and ad placement that isn’t underserved. The result is that my RPM for this February over last year is up by $9.59 per 1000 pageviews which nets me a $1614 increase this year.

What’s interesting and frustrating is that my pageviews for this February are only 2k higher than last year when I had MUCH less posts at the time. Clearly, all of the changes to SERP results and updates have taken their toll leaving me in a limbo I can’t seem to break past when it comes to increasing traffic.

Increasing Publishing

Instead of trying to figure out WHY my traffic hasn’t really gone up exponentially, I decided to spend that time publishing more posts. I had a very lofty goal of publishing 20 new posts this month which would mean 5x per week. I put my head down and got to work and was able to get out 18 posts of course with the help of my assistant writer.

While I haven’t seen a dramatic increase in overall traffic, I do see that I am ranking for more and more keywords each day. If even a handful of those posts start to do well over time, this could help break me out of a plateau.

What I’ve learned from this month is that I spend too much time on the little details. The keyword research, crafting what and when I should post when in reality it doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be published.

The reason I was able to get so many posts out is because I had a large backup from the holidays and I also started incorporating more informational posts instead of just recipes. This definitely helps the overall time it takes to get a post published.

My goal for this month is to continue the streak but with one less post per week. I would love to start taking a half day on Friday’s to start tending to my new gardening hobby and to enjoy the warmer weather.

Changing Themes

I’ve officially made the decision to leave Feast for greener pastures. Over the next month, I will be transitioning my blog to Kadence with a new better looking theme.

There are a lot of reasons for this decision but one of the main ones was that I don’t like being locked into only what Feast offers. I also don’t like that every single food site is starting to look the same.

I want to be able to customize my site with blocks and plugins that are a bit more supportive and functional, so Kadence it is!

Social Media

My last Tiktok post was over a month ago. I just can’t seem to get on the ball with social media including Pinterest. I really want to have a business that doesn’t rely on social to get traffic and income. I’m sure I am losing out on potential for traffic and sponsored posts but the effort it takes to do any social media on any kind of schedule continues to not be worth it right now.

Other Sites

While this site took a lot of my working hours this month, I was able to maintain the writing agency as well as the other two sites that Kristina and I are building. We have a good routine going that is slow and steady and not overwhelming which was a lesson we learned over the 2021. I’m happy to report that our first site together had a total of nearly 4400 pageviews in February and seems to be steady and slowly climbing.

Our second site is a bit of a different situation and is going to take a bit more time to grow, but even the updates we’re making are already helping.

It’s really nice to see that what we both know to be true about SEO and building sites is working. I think that a lot of food bloggers don’t really look outside the box to use other blog strategies and while that could sometimes be helpful, it could also hurt too.

Building a blog is like building a house in almost every way. It needs a strong foundation and continued educated and updated work to grow into a profitable asset!

☘️ Blog Plans For March 2022

My plans for Thyme and Joy are to keep a steady publishing streak without getting burnt out and without beating myself up if I don’t make my goal. I plan on putting up more informational supporting content and to continue to let perfect not get in the way of good enough. I also hope to have my new theme installed and to learn Kadence inside and out.

As far as the other two sites, they will continue to be worked on at the same pace of one post per week for each with some admin work sprinkled in on each. That’s all we both have time and money for and that is good enough!
