💭What Happened In July 2022
Busy Personal Month
The month of July was not typical for me. There was lots of family visits, a death in the family, and that brought an overwhelming amount of disarray when it came to my work time.
Even though I was able to get in a few hours each day, I spent that time focusing on client work and making sure that was settled before working on the blog. What helped me is that I had nearly 3 weeks of content scheduled ahead, but by the end of the month I was only ahead by a few days.
Overall, I am incredibly grateful that I have the opportunity to slow down my hours and work putting out fires without detriment to my site. This proves that its worth it to continue at a pace that keeps me ahead by a few weeks because I never know what life is going to throw at us!
July Traffic & RPM’s
I am very impressed with the traffic for this month. There were some days that I was over 8k pageviews and I couldn’t believe it was happening in July!
But, just as the see saw goes up, it goes down too. At the time of writing this, my traffic has slowly declined just a bit. This could be from small updates, losing rank on a top post, or because people are focused on vacations and back to school. And because I’ve been posting so much, I’m not really worried about it!
My average RPM for the month was close to $30. I know people who have way more and way less. I’ve come to the conclusion that my RPM is never going to be super elite high. This is because I have an alcohol post that usually goes viral during the holidays and also because I stopped using so many photos in my posts.
At this point, I would rather have lots of posts going out than to spend that time on photography. If a post that doesn’t have a lot of photos starts doing well, I can always go back and make more photos, but it’s hard to say what posts will do well so I’ve decided to let the numbers and rankings speak first.
750 Post Publishing Sprint
At this point in time, I need to post 31 posts per month to meet my goal by the end of the year. At the time when I started this sprint, it seemed crazy like I was never going to get there or that I would eventually just give up.
But now, because I’ve built up my systems and publishing muscle, it feels like I will be able to meet that goal especially if I plan well.
Getting to a certain number of posts does not guarantee anything on a blog. For me, I would like to bring my baseline of traffic higher but I’m also using it to challenge myself, learn, and grow. Once I hit the goal I want to take a look at everything and make a new plan which hopefully involves getting more content out that’s not written by me so I can keep as many lines in the water as possible.
Other Sites
Our second blog had its one year birthday and made it to 8800 pageviews! This blog has such a relaxed feel to it because we’re not hyper focused on every little detail. This has helped us let go of a lot of perfectionism and it has trickled over into the attitude towards my blog and any others after.
We stopped work on our third site about 6 months ago because it just felt boring and overwhelming at the same time. But, after time has passed, I’m very glad that we have that iron in the fire to get back to so we can flip and sell it and keep going learning more and growing more in this crazy business of internet real estate.

🎆 Blog Plans For August 2022
I don’t have any major pivots or projects going on for the month. My only goal is to get back into a routine with work and at home after a crazy month. I will continue to publish on both sites at the cadence I set and will continue to refine the systems I set up for myself.
This also means that I am not going crazy to come up with specific content thats geared towards the holidays ahead. I’ve learned that besides the one viral post I have during the holidays, this blog is mostly a year round adventure. A post I publish now wouldn’t gain its full potential until 6-8 months and I don’t really focus on social media, so there’s no need to stress. I’ll just keep at my strategy and try not to get sucked into shiny objects!
Love this and you’re totally on fire! I feel like this is a new era for us, can’t wait to see where we are in a year from now.
Thank you for your income reports!
Quick question about “other sites”: Will you wait until they will qualify for Mediavine? or you will put some ads from Ezoic/SheMedia/Monumetric ads until then?
Hello! We actually tried Ezoic on one of the sites and it slowed it down a LOT. We decided we would rather keep it fast and tidy and wait until we can apply for the bigger ad networks especially since it made about $20/mo. Not worth it in this instance!
