💭What Happened In February 2023

February Work Flow

My complete lack of motivation in January bled heavily into February. I was in a FUNK in the worst way possible. I started focusing on more things at home and truly only did the bare minimum which meant only doing client work.

By the time I was two weeks in, my assistant had a family emergency and needed some time off. As much as I wanted to keep posting, I just couldn’t get myself to do it so I decided to take the whole month off of posting.

Part of this was because I was still paralyzed by the future of blogging. The other reason was because I spent SO much of last year posting like a maniac and though I didn’t *feel* burnt out, I clearly was.

I’m a big believer in momentum. Since I was posting so heavily, it was easy to stay in motion. When I stopped, it was easy to get out of motion.

I am extremely blessed to have a source of income in this way that I can take a whole month off and still make an income. Will it affect things down the road? Maybe, but what I learned from this is that I need to ensure I’m not going 300% all the time. I can still post an amount that will move the needle over time without getting out of the groove.

Google Update

Over the holidays, my hard work was paying off with all of the posting. I was climbing in rankings and traffic for new things every day!

That came to a halt with the January update. My traffic and ranking started to decline and I got nervous about that. I attributed it to me not posting for the month even though I knew that was wrong.

I dug a bit deeper and saw that two of my top posts ranked for 1000’s of keywords each. They went down in rank which means losing traffic from those two posts made an impact. Luckily I have many other lines in the water and this is why its important to CONTINUE to be putting lines in the water.

Luckily for me, after a few weeks, it looks like those posts are recovering in ranking which is returning some of my traffic but not all. The solution to all of this? KEEP POSTING

Capacity

Over this last month I’ve had more time to think about what pivoting means for the business and I still cant come up with the right way to do so. As of right now, I only have the capacity to focus on traffic as my main source of income and that’s ok.

What I am hoping though is that when I start this new site, I can streamline it better and it will SHOW me what I need to do where as this site has already set its foundation.

For instance, what if the next site has content that is more sharable on FB? Or what if a Youtube channel is a better way to supplement traffic for that niched down subject?

Breathing new life into my daily routine I think is what is going to help sort things out. I can always focus on more branding for Thyme and Joy, but right now I have no desire to.

Plan For March

My plan for March is to reestablish my work flow in a way that is not going to make me NEED to take a month off. I can comfortably work for clients, post 4x a week here, 1x a week on my shared site, and start a new site. Although that seems like a lot, I do have MUCH better systems and I will also be using my income for more resources to help.

For instance, this next site may be a good one to try out a reputable content writing service to take the edge off of me writing all of the posts. I also have a great assistant that uploads my posts into WordPress and fills out the recipe cards. Which helps me immensely.

Another task I would like to accomplish is getting my assistant to add more affiliate links to my site and making better Pinterest posts to see if that will boost traffic.

Once I get back in a healthy groove with time to take breaks and enjoy life, I’m sure this business will be much more well rounded.
